The junior cricket section was formed in 1991 and has grown each year since then.
With more than 900 members in 2014, we are now one of the largest junior sections in the country turning out teams in every age group from the U8s through to the Academy squad.
We want to make sure that every young player, irrespective of ability, has an enjoyable cricketing experience at Spencer, and is able to achieve their playing potential. Of course, not everyone can play in the league sides, so we run many friendly fixtures each week to provide regular competitive playing opportunities for all juniors.
Every Sunday throughout the summer, we run our regular practice sessions, when skills can be developed under the watchful eyes of our qualified coaching staff. The more advanced players can expect to play in the league sides, and will attend midweek nets and pre-season squad training. Where we see talent, we will help develop it. We have a strong coaching staff, and many of the coaches have been busy over the winter qualifying for the UKCC Level 2 coaching badge. This adds enormously to our coaching capacity at the Club and our awareness of latest best practice, and will help us to take the next steps towards becoming a genuine centre of excellence in the region.
On top of the regular training activities throughout the season, we also run holiday courses during the May half-term and summer holidays – details and booking form are on the Holiday Courses page of the website. Ultimately, we hope that you enjoy cricket at Spencer, that you feel at home in the Club, and that you can go on and play in the men and women’s senior cricket teams. I hope that by navigating the pages of the junior section of the website you will find all you need to know about applying to join the junior section, who to make contact with, and what to expect over the course of the season. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to email us.
