Wandsworth Council approves planning application for new indoor nets
We are delighted to be able to announce that Wandsworth Council has today (January 18th) approved our application to build new indoor nets at Fieldview.
The designs, drawn up for the Club by Studio Octopi were submitted in November 2017. They involve the demolition of the existing one lane net and its replacement with a modern, purpose built building capable of being configured as either two full size adult nets or three junior nets. The cost of the new build will be in the region of £750,000 and the Club will shortly be embarking on a fundraising programme.
‘As every member of Spencer Cricket Club will know, this is really exciting’ said cricket chairman Neil Harrison, ‘the prospect of being able to host our own winter training, with the best coaching, complemented by latest modern technology and infrastructure is a huge opportunity. Having the facility at hand will also be a great relief to our junior parents who have become used to travelling to Dulwich, the Oval, Merton and all points in-between as we sought indoor net space.’
In addition to Spencer use, the facility will be open to other local clubs and there are also plans for extensive engagement to offer capacity to local schools. Overall Spencer Club chairman Ross Newby: ‘This is now a fantastic opportunity for our cricket section and for the Club as a whole, something that I know has been worked on, on and off for over a decade. We are pleased to have been able to play our part and look forward to the fundraising endeavours to come. ‘
Full details of the plans and initial fundraising will be circulated to all members shortly but in the meantime, Spencer Cricket Club would like to thank Studio Octopi for their work and also particularly to two Club members, Chris Brodie and Sam Martin whose planning and architectural expertise has been invaluable in obtaining planning consent. We are also grateful to the other Spencer sports sections and the central club staff and officers who have also provided much assistance. We were also pleased to receive advice and support from the English Cricket Board, the Surrey Cricket Foundation and Wandsworth Council.
