Surrey Slam Finals day

Surrey Slam Finals day
Bank Holiday Monday sees 20/20 fever grip Spencer as the Spitfires take part in the inaugural Surrey Slam Finals Day.

What is the Surrey Slam? The Surrey Slam is Surrey's largest T20 competition. A new evening cricket competition this year, played across the county by 64 teams, that provides an accessible, fast-paced, short-format version of the game.
The ambition is to help cricket-lovers fit a weekly game into their busy schedules. It has been designed specifically to fit around work and other social commitments.

When and where is Finals Day: Beddington Cricket Club from 12 midday on Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Food, drinks and bouncy castles available on the day.

Your Newsletter caught up with Spencer short forms skipper Harry Bardon for a quick preview:

What’s been the story so far? The Spencer Spitfires have been a real show of the strength of the middle of our club - fielding more than 30 players over the course of 7 matches, spanning players from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th XIs, while also providing an avenue for a handful of new players to join the club.

Who’ve we got on Finals Day? The Valley End Vikings, The Effingham Ships and The Outwood Outlaws are the only 3 teams left from 64 who joined who can stop us becoming the inaugural Surrey Slam Champions!

What’s been your highlight of the competition so far? Our home games at the SCG, featuring DJ James Lipscombe on the music system, alongside Chefs Jamie Greig & Aqib Sindhu on the BBQ created a great atmosphere and really helped to transform Wednesday nights at the club to a more social event, and contributed to the Indoor School Fund handsomely!

Who’s been the star player? Club CaptainJames Smith - the underarm shovel throw in from the boundary is an under-rated weapon in T20 when the batsmen look for 2 to Long-On.

Who’s the player to watch on finals day? Wild Card Nomi Bashir at the top of the order - the man to get us off to a flier. Jon Hare & Babar Hussein with the new pink ball will be a handful for any batsman.

Which team have you most enjoyed playing and why? Anyone who bowls to me without a Long On, Cow Corner or Deep Mid-Wicket.

What’s been your funniest moment of the season? Probably a minor incident with a cricket net at Mitcham...

If you had to pick one Slam player to hit the stumps in a bowl out who would it be and why? Cameron Ponsonby - never has the inability to turn the ball been more valuable.

Team Line Up:

Nomi Bashir
James Smith
Freddie Horler
Freddie Eltringham
Harry Bardon *
